Clinton Hill Community Action is Hiring a Grocery Store Manager Near Newark, NJ

We are seeking a skilled Grocery Manager to oversee the daily operations of our grocery department. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in sales management, team leadership, and customer service.

General Description: Responsible for overseeing the day-to-day operation of the grocery store, as well as being able to be detail-oriented, motivate teams, and have interpersonal skills to offer premier customer service and maximize the store’s efficiency.

Performance Target(s): Engage ## of residents to sign up for memberships. Lead planning and implementation of marketing strategies and promotions within the store. Manage at least two sales associates and achieve %% of growth and professional development. Achieve satisfactory customer service feedback from patrons.

Duties: Duties include, but are not limited to:

Store Management

  • Coordinate and co-facilitate team meetings, briefing staff on updates to the store, as well as ensuring safety guidelines are being acknowledged
  • Create purchase orders for products based on inventory and sales trends
  • Facilitate discussions with the Director and staff for continuous improvement
  • Coordinate with outside vendors and their presence in the store
  • Supervise staff and provide day-to-day support for the juice bar, registers, and inventory
  • Compile inventory data and sale trends to prepare summary reports
  • Ensure invoices are reviewed for pricing and discount accuracy

Staffing and Supervision

  • Managing sales associates through charting professional development and implementation of feedback.
  • Observe safety and security procedures and report potentially unsafe conditions. Use equipment and materials properly
  • Plan and facilitate regular staff meetings
  • Organize team-building exercises to promote synergy and inclusivity of staff members
  • Host community conversations and lead marketing campaign to promote the food co-op

Member Management and Programming

  • Develop and implement a project plan for the launch of Phase I of the food coop, including fit-up for the site, securing donations and developing a food and goods stocking plan, and recruiting and hiring staff and volunteers to manage day-to-day operations
  • Be able to explain the Co-op’s membership system to staff and customers simply, efficiently
  • Represent the organization in related coalitions, meetings, and collaboratives and serve as a compelling voice for action

Providing general support across the store

  • Know store layout and be aware and knowledgeable about products in all departments
  • Provide operational status reports to the Board of Directors

Qualifications: Clinton Hill or South Ward residents preferred; High School Diploma/GED and at least 2 years of related experience required; Excellent project management and interpersonal skills; Good communication and customer service skills; Strong critical thinking and problem-solving skills; Available to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends; Ability to lift up to 50lbs
